My research program has focused on questions and issues that address three major topics. First I have examined facilities, modes of transportation and experiences as they relate to trail planning and design. This topic area has further evolved into an examination of greenways and green infrastructure in land use and park planning. Second I have pursued research that examines visitor use and attitudes related to nature based recreation environments in order to help managers plan for impacts. Finally, I have pursued research on recreation specialization to better understand how leisure behavior evolves in individuals and how different types of users should be accounted for in planning and design.
