COMPARISON OF IN-TUBE EVAPORATION OF REFRIGERANT 113 IN ELECTRICALLY HEATED AND FLUID HEATED SMOOTH AND INNER-FIN TUBES. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A systematic comparison of evaporation heat transfer coefficients was carried out for both smooth and micro-fin tubes with long (3. 81 m), electrically heated test sections and short (1. 0 m), water heated test sections. Commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning tubes of 9. 52 mm O. D. were studied with Refrigerant 113. The mass velocity was in the range of 218 to 600 kg/m**2 multiplied by (times) s, while the average system pressure ranged from 322 kPa to 343 kPa. The average quality in the short test sections varied from 0. 15 to 0. 85, and the local quality for the long test sections ranged from 0. 0 to 0. 98. The local heat transfer coefficients for the micro-fin tube were increased by 18 to 172% over the smooth tube, while the maximum increase in pressure drop was about 30%.
