Though the belt pulley transmission system offers certain advantages over direct-driven system and gear driven systems, the compliance of belt adds additional dynamics which need to be studied. This paper addresses the issue of compliance of belt on the speed control system. A model which includes the compliance of the belt is proposed. Analysis of the dynamic model to address issues such as the feedback scheme to be used and the choice of the feedback gains is performed. Simulation results for a prototype web unwind station with a belt-pulley transmission system are presented and discussed.
