Novel anti-TNF-alpha therapy to improve Equine perforamce and quality of life Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The reason for the proposed research is to develop an effective equine specific anti-cytokine therapy that will not induce immunogenicity and can be used to treat major health concerns like colic, stress-induced injuries, and osteoarthritis. This research is necessary and innovative because there is not yet an effective equine therapy targetingproinflammatory cytokines. In addition, this research will evaluate a therapy that is completely novelby overexpressing modified cytokine receptorson MSCs, producing a dual approach, which incorporates the benefits of MSC and anti-cytokine therapies. This research will have a significant impact to the improvement of equine performance and longevity of work life, enhance benefits from MSCs by decreasing cytokine-induced apoptosis, and may open the door to new anti-cytokinetherapies for other species, including humans.
