abstract
A recent publication by Phinney and his associates (1) has presented a discovery for which the field of cell biology has been waiting for more than half a century: a protocol that makes it possible to expand mouse cells in culture without the cells spontaneously transforming. Amazing though it seems, the secret is simply to grow the cells under hypoxic conditions.
