Gendering Digital Literary History Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Literary history constructed by print poses a paradoxical necessity for those creating digital archives under the "sponsoring category" of "woman": they must simultaneously muster a large number of women writers and treat each individual as crucially important. This chapter discusses how that necessity arose and what has been done to counteract it by digital archives of women writers, primarily Orlando and Women Writers Online.
