Human Herpesviruses and Animal Models Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • This chapter reviews the various human herpesviruses (HHVs) and their associated diseases. Animal models have been developed to study some HHVs, and these, as well as development of intervention strategies using these models, are discussed. Additionally, specific protocols are included to enable investigators to use the current state of the art techniques to explore various aspects of viral infection in animal models. The protocols presented in this chapter are a collection of techniques that are generally applicable to the study of all herpesviruses in animal models and can be utilized by both the experienced and inexperienced virologist. 2013 Elsevier Inc.
