abstract

• This paper presents a new approximate analytical technique for solving the transient periodic heat conduction equation. The new technique, called 'Interzone Temperature Profile Estimation,' or I. T. P. E. , is applied to the two-dimensional coupling between the ground and a rectangular basement with thermal insulation on the walls and the floor. The results are compared with those obtained by the shape factor method of Mitalas (1983) and by the dimensionless parameter method of Yard et al. (1984).
