COMPARING MONITORING PROTOCOLS FOR ENERGY RETROFITS Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • This paper describes the site description protocols used in the Texas LoanSTAR program, compares the protocols with the protocols from ASHEAE's Guide for Building Characteristics and DOE's Commercial Building Monitoring Protocols, and presents some possible uses for the site description information. The comparison is intended to provide information to those considering the use of protocols for energy-monitoring projects and to provide insight into the relative usefulness and coverage of the three protocols. The availability of data from the Texas LoanSTAR program provides a unique opportunity to examine these protocols in an ongoing retrofit monitoring project. The experience with developing special protocols for the LoanSTAR program has shown that it is possible to begin with an accepted protocol (such as the DOE or ASHRAE protocol) and add or delete items as needed. The alternative (starting from scratch) is clearly not recommended.
