A THERMAL MASS TREATMENT FOR THE TC 4.7 SIMPLIFIED ENERGY ANALYSIS PROCEDURE Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The TC 4.7 simplified energy analysis procedure (SEAP) does not incorporate thermal mass as a factor in the estimation of heating and cooling energy requirements of buildings. ASHRAE Research Project RP-564 was initiated in part to develop a thermal mass treatment suitable for use in the SEAP. This paper describes a one-node thermal mass model suitable for incorporation into SEAP. Complete equations for implementation of the model are provided, and a detailed example is given that illustrates the use of the thermal mass model with the SEAP. The performance of the thermal mass model is described in a companion paper (Balasubramanya et al. 1992).
