Dynamic analysis of turbulent annular seals based on Hirs' lubrication equation.
The aim of the present analysis is to develop analytical expressions for the dynamic coefficients for annular seals, the neck ring or interstage seals in multistage centrifugal pump. The development is based on perturbation analysis of this turbulent lubrication equation in the eccentricity ratio. Comparisons are made between the stiffness, damping and inertia coefficients derived, and previously published results based on other models. Finally, numerical results are presented for interstage seals in the Space Shuttle Main Engine High Pressure Fuel Turbopump and a water pump. (from paper)
