Individual assessment of specific academic areas. Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • This chapter reviews some of the measures that are frequently used in the individual assessment of academic skills in relation to curricular areas of reading, written expression, and mathematics. The discussion includes not only the achievement batteries, but also examples of measures of specific academic skills, and, when appropriate, less-formalized approaches to individual assessment of specific academic skills. Individual assessment of specific skills is more complex when considering cultural and linguistic differences. Following the discussion of individual achievement measures by specific skill area is a discussion of the availability of measures for the English language learner (ELL). The discussion here is not intended to serve as a critical review of measures or an endorsement of their use. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
