abstract
A distributed parameter model of the lateral dynamic behavior of a moving web in an n-roller system is proposed. A span of web moving longitudinally and under tension is modeled as a beam with shear flexibility (Timoshenko beam). A quasistatic simplification of the model is made on the basis of spectral separation. Boundary conditions at the web-roller interface are considered. Actuator dynamics are introduced through the formulation of the boundary conditions. Closed-loop simulations using a state-space version of the simplified model are in agreement with experimental results.<>
