A New Two Stage Differential Mode Power Converter for Large Scale PV Plants Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • 2018 IEEE. This paper presents a new two-stage differential mode power converter to enable higher energy yield for large-scale solar power plants. The proposed topology is characterized by its fractional power rating, higher efficiency, scalability and lower cost. The approach consists of dividing a given solar field to several zones, employing a center point ground with 1500V DC collection grid and interconnecting them with fractional rated current/voltage balancing converter topology to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) thereby mitigating the effects of partial shading and temperature differences. The proposed system is shown to be scalable to suite large-scale solar PV power plants. A design example along with simulation results are discussed for a wide range of insolation/temperature levels for a 1.1 MW power plant.
