abstract
2018 AACC. In this study, Simple Adaptive Control (SAC) effectiveness in mitigating excessive response of a three-span continuous bridge subjected to earthquake load is examined, before and after parametric change is introduced. SAC performance is compared to LQR, and to a purely passive control scheme. Both SAC and LQR are designed considering the ideal structure and compared. Posteriorly, a stiffness reduction of 20% to both piers is introduced, and the performance is again compared. SAC is successful in sustaining the performance under parametric change, and is successful in reducing the response for both the ideal structure and after the stiffness reduction is introduced. Its performance is superior to the others control schemes under parametric variation.
