abstract
The density-matrix equation for a single atom interacting with a single mode of a cavity with finite Q is solved for the time dependence of various physical quantities using the dressed-atom approximation. The effect of the cavity damping on the collapse and revival phenomena and on the photon statistics is studied in detail. 1986 The American Physical Society.
