abstract
This paper addresses the problem of combining the micromechanical and continuum damage approaches in order to develop a synergistic approach of greater applicability than is feasible by the two approaches individually. The idea explored is that of developing a micromechanics-based continuum damage approach. A particular way of achieving this is discussed here by considering transverse cracking of cross ply laminates of fiber reinforced composites.
