abstract
Long-lived free induction decay signals induced by pulses greater than 104 have been observed in superfluid 3He-B in a magnetic field of 0.16 T at a pressure of 31 bar down to 0.25 Tc. Decay times as long as 6 s have been seen. During the decays, the frequency of the signal decreases, which is characteristic of a homogeneously precessing domain (HPD). It appears that the high magnetic field used in these experiments stabilizes the HPD against the catastrophic relaxation phenomenon observed at lower fields. Investigation of this effect over a range of magnetic fields is underway and will be reported. 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
