2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. All rights reserved. Limited research has been conducted on the co-culture of tilapia and catfish in cages and in-pond raceway systems. Virtually, all the research has shown improvement in catfish growth with good tilapia performance and suggestions of some water quality enhancement. An associated increase in net profitability potential was also observed because of the increased yield of catfish and sale of the tilapia into niche markets. Commercial and hobby producers of catfish in cages and in-pond raceway systems have adopted the co-culture model because of the improved growth, profitability, and for water quality improvement.
