abstract
A new separation process - exsorption - is proposed in this paper. Exsorption is based on the principle of solvent extraction with complex formation agents, with the solvent soluble agents replaced by solvent-suspended solids. In the exsorption process, the extracted solutes can be easily separated with the adsorbents from the solvent, which is very difficult in the solvent extraction with complex formation agents process. The exsorption process is compared with the conventional solvent extraction and adsorption processes in two categories: the solute uptake capacity, and the selectivity of the solute over the solvent in the feeding stream or the selectivity of one solute over another solute in the feeding stream.
