USAR competitions for physically situated robots Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is a branch of rescue that concentrates on victim detection and removal from man-made structures. The USAR domain differs primarily from other applications in that the robots must function in confined space, voids so small that a person can barely crawl into them, but cannot turn around. This article provides an overview of USAR as a competition domain.
