abstract
The effect of oxidation on the thermomechanical response of oxidation-resistant, two-dimensional, externally coated, eight-harness satin-weave, matrix inhibited carbon/carbon laminates is investigated. A through-the-thickness finite element representation of the laminate which accounts for the presence of the external coating as well as the presence of particulate inhibitors within the matrix is developed. Results indicate that inhibitor oxidation affects the thermomechanical response of the laminate in the through-the-thickness direction. The influence of the oxidation on the in-plane response, however, appears negligible. 1996 Elsevier Science Limited.
