abstract
Limes contain several putative bioactive compounds and certain compounds are known to possess antioxidant activity. The current study is focused on understanding antioxidant potential of different solvent extracts of lime seeds. Defatted lime seeds was extracted with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), methanol (MeOH), and MeOH: water and screened for their radical scavenging activity using DPPH and ABTS methods. The MeOH extract showed maximum radical scavenging activity in both DPPH and ABTS assay at four concentrations. The phenolic content was the highest in extracts of EtOAc followed by MeOH, and MeOH: water. Our results suggest that lime seeds have potential for scavenging free radicals, which can be further utilized for health maintaining properties.
