A number of risk management instruments, both government-backed and private, are available to crop producers. Producers need to have tools to quickly evaluate the likely outcomes of various price and yield risk management instruments and their combinations. Research is also needed to provide a deeper understanding of how new and proposed crop risk management products will affect the financial performance of U.S. crop farmers, U.S. crop insurers, and the Federal Crop Reinsurance program.
