Test and prediction results for five spread footings on sand Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A separate volume summarizes this prediction symposium. It is available from ASCE in New York and is entitled as listed above. This prediction event took place during the conference and the following is an abstract of the content of the volume which includes the prediction package as sent to the predictors, the measured behavior of the footings, a comparison of the predicted and measured responses, and all the prediction papers. The prediction volume is approximately 250 pages in length. Five square spread footings were load tested to 0.15 m of penetration. The footings ranged in size from 1 m to 3 m, were embedded 0.75 m, and were loaded vertically at their center. A detailed soil investigation program was undertaken and led to numerous in situ and laboratory soil test results. The soil test results and the spread footing details were sent to engineers around the world. Participants were asked to predict the loads (Q25 and Q150) necessary to create 25 mm and 150 mm of settlement after 30 minutes of load application.
