abstract
Heavy ions with an energy up to 8 MeV/A for S+16and 1 MeV/A for Au+34 from the 16 MV Tandem will be injected into the AGS for further acceleration to < 15 GeV/A. A 600-meter beam transport line between the Tandem and the AGS has been designed and is under construction. This paper describes the design of the vacuum system of this transport line and the performance of the prototype vacuum sectors.
