Noise enhanced efficiency of ordered traffic Academic Article

abstract

• A previously defined model of a single traffic junction between a main and a side road is studied. The incoming traffic from the main road is assumed to be periodic but modulated by Gaussian noise of strength D with a power spectrum of 1/f(k) type with k 0. It is shown that the overall traffic efficiency can be enhanced by applying the noise, whereas the exponent k of the power spectrum plays an important role for further enhancement.
