abstract
An in depth harmonic assessment of FCCs (forced commutated cycloconverters) is presented for unbalanced operating conditions. The analytical procedure described allows for closed-form assessment of harmonics generated by the FCC under unbalance. It is shown that for unbalance in input supply abnormal harmonics of considerable magnitude at lower frequencies are generated and impose severe restrictions on the FCC's operating frequency range and waveform quality. This aspect is fully analyzed. Selected results were verified experimentally on a laboratory prototype FCC.
