COMPUTING OPTIMAL BOUNDARY CONTROLS OF A PLATE BY THE BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The problem of shape control of a reflecting mirror is considered, assuming that the mirror is modeled by a thin elastostatic plate. At certain interior points of the plate are located a number of sensors, which measure the deformation at those points. Boundary controls are applied to the plate so that the sensory data are as close to the prescribed values as possible. A boundary element method is used to approximate optimal boundary controls for a quadratic cost problem. The method has been shown to have high accuracy and efficiency. Numerical results are included.
