Livestock veterinarians are being called on to perform response trials to evaluate the efficacy and economic impact of new management practices on individual ranches. This column discusses various aspects of designing, implementing, and interpreting the results of response trials. Factors that can affect the validity of these trials are also explained, and a case example is used to illustrate the concepts.
