An innovative marketing strategy pursued by Japanese manufacturers of a wide variety of durable consumer goods to successfully penetrate the Indian market, despite high entry barriers, is the subject of this report. Considerations that may justify imitation of the Japanese strategy by durable goods manufacturers in other industrialized nations to penetrate protected Third World markets are also discussed. 1985.
