Performance evaluation of loading/offloading from floating quay to super container ship
Additional Document Info
Feasibility of using floating quay container terminal for loading to or unloading from container ships from both sides is discussed. The hydrodynamic interaction effects among a fixed quay, container ship, and floating quay, which are parallel to one another, are investigated. The three-body side-by-side arrangement is compared with the container ship alone in the absence of the floating quay to identify the interaction effects. Hydrodynamic coefficients of the interacting bodies are obtained using a three dimensional diffraction/radiation program for multiple bodies. Using vessel-lines coupled dynamic analysis computer program, the relative motion between floating quay and container ship is simulated in time domain. It is assumed in the present study that the floating quay is positioned by a dolphin mooring system. The dolphin forces and relative motions among container ship, fixed and floating quay are simulated to ascertain that the container loading and offloading can be done in the worst operating wave condition without any problem.
