abstract
The device of stages is a useful technique for modeling non-exponential distributions. The parameters of the device of stages can be obtained by equating the moments of the device of stages with those of the distribution being approximated. This paper presents an analytical solution for the parameters of the "two stages in parallel" device in terms of the moments of the non-exponential distribution. The analytical solution is given as a function of the scale and shape parameters in the case of an overdispersed gamma distribution. 1987.
