abstract
This article discusses some possible contributions of methane hydrate to global change, especially as the result of global warming. The most significant aspects of the influence of methane hydrates on global changes are shown to include: change in atmospheric composition; changes in thermal profile of the earth; activation of seismic processes; dynamics of the geoelectric field; dynamics of the hydrocarbon deposits; the geography of the polar shores; sea level; and the nature of the sea floor.
