abstract
We show that a variational calculation of the ground-state energy of SU(N) Hamiltonian lattice gauge theories concurrently gives an estimate of the 0++ glueball mass. Monte Carlo calculations in three spatial dimensions for N=3, 4, 5, and 6 indicate that the resulting glueball mass begins to scale for N5. 1986 The American Physical Society.
