SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURE OF CHIRAL RHENIUM ALLYL COMPLEXES OF THE FORMULA (ETA-5-C5H5)RE(NO)(PPH3)(CH2C(R')=CHR) Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Reaction of Li+[(5-C5H5)Re(NO)(PPh3)]_with allyl, methallyl, and cinnamyl chlorides gives 1-allyl complexes (5-C5H5)Re(NO)(PPh3)(CH2C(R')=CHR) (2a-c) in 72-93% yields. Complexes 2 are also prepared (70-84%) by reaction of t-BuO-K+with alkene complexes [(5-C5H5)Re(NO)(PPh3)(H2C=CH-(R')CH2R)]+PF6-and are characterized by NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopy. The crystal structure of 2c (monoclinic, P21/n, a = 13.509 (3) , b = 14.871 (2) , c = 14.698 (3) , = 112.54 (1), Z = 4) shows two conformations of the cinnamyl ligand which differ primarily in orientation about the C-Cbond. Difference1H NOE experiments on 2c and 2a suggest the presence of analogous conformations in solution. 1989, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
