abstract
This paper presents a methodology for shape control of a cantilevered beam with multiple SMA wire actuators. Previous research by the authors has centered on adaptive control of a single SMA actuator to elicit a desired structural response. The approach for a single SMA actuator is extended for multiple SMA actuators, which increases the complexity of actuator control. The effect of one actuator on the structural deformation is coupled with the effects of the other actuators. The cantilevered beam experiment is provided as a proof of concept for shape control strategies which can be applied to the more complicated aerofoil rib structure.
