Prof. Kelly studies fundamental particle physics, attempting to better understand the makeup of the universe, its constituent parts, and how they interact. His specialties include neutrino physics and dark matter. In studying these topics, he utilizes the tools of quantum field theory and astroparticle physics to test many novel hypotheses. The Standard Model of particle physics, which matches experimental data very well, has a number of inconsistencies. Prof. Kelly and his research team explore mechanisms of going beyond the Standard Model to discover new phenomena on earth and in the cosmos.
