Characterization of avian herpesvirus vector vaccines capable of protecting against multiple diseases in chickens Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Marek's disease is a cancer like disease of chicken. This disease is controlled by vaccination using a virus called HVT. In this proposal we plan to modify the HVT vaccine so that they are able to carry genetic segments (genes) from other chicken pathogens. When we use these modified HVT vaccine in chickens, it is expected that the chicken will be protected non only against a cancer like disease but also against other diseases since they express proteins from other pathogens as well. So such modified vaccines are able to protect two or more disease using a single vaccine product.
