abstract

  • Housing X represents a visionary effort to revolutionize the housing design model in the United States. The proposed project is located on the S Malcolm X Boulevard block in the urban core of Dallas. Despite its central location, this block has not experienced significant development activity in comparison to its neighboring areas. The primary objective of the project is to examine the current situation and provide affordable housing for a mixed-income community without isolating any particular group. The project proposes a combination of income groups and programs to ensure that the community is diverse and inclusive. Additionally, the project aims to promote responsible architecture that considers the local community and environment. This approach integrates sustainable design elements aimed at minimizing the building's operational costs, including natural design strategies such as daylighting and cross ventilation, smart water usage, and solar energy. The ultimate goal of Housing X is to serve as a model for revitalizing isolated and abandoned areas by returning them to the community and the city. It has the potential to act as a catalyst for addressing the housing affordability crisis that many communities face today.
