abstract

• The cAMP hypothesis for the slow IPSP appeared attractive and was supported by the evidence available at the time. However, the hypothesis was based on several assumptions. These assumptions themselves are questionable. Finally, current electrophysiolgical and biochemical data do not support the hypothesis that elevations in cAMP result in the production of a slow IPSP.
