abstract
The overall goals of this project is obtain sex-specific age and growth estimates of blacktip sharks in the eastern and western Gulf of Mexico. The project will further examine reproductive histology of blacktip sharks in the eastern and western Gulf of Mexico and apply a novel technique (vertebral chemistry) as an age validation method for blacktip sharks. Finally, the project will evaluate the sensitivity of empirically derived life history parameters on stock assessment model outcomes.
