• Defines forgiveness and its process in intergroup conflict resolution, reviewing two dominant models of forgiveness; discussing individual, contextual, and group level variables that can affect the process; explaining why forgiveness often does not occur or last; suggesting how it may operate within this general theory; and developing a blueprint for testing the application of experimental methodology to studies of forgiveness.
