The Safe Day Call: Reducing Silos in Health Care Through Frontline Risk Assessment. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Copyright 2014 The Joint Commission. The Safe Day Call provides unique insight into complex procedures and team dynamics, thereby improving implementation and, ultimately, improving patient safety. To date, the initiative has been implemented regionwide in all seven medical centers in Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 11. Each facility follows the basic structure but tailors the initiative for its specific facility. Some of the facilities have included bringing leadership in on the calls, expanding the initiative to the weekend, tracking events identified in Safe Day Calls, and using marketing tools to share the results with staff.20 Information regarding the initiative has been provided to other VA facilities through publications and webinars made available by the VA's National Center for Patient Safety, which intends to roll out nationwide implementation.
