abstract
One of the tasks faced by immunohematologists is that of screening blood samples for alloantibodies. If such antibodies are found to be present, based on certain screening tests, the specific types of antibodies contained in the blood sample must be ascertained. This task requires these experts to identify the set of primitive hypotheses that (jointly) account for the patterns found in test results. The authors explore the use of verbal reports as data for inferring the strategies used by immunohematologists in focusing attention on candidate hypotheses.
