Development of a Hybrid Heat Sink for Thermal Management of Hot-Spots â Concentrated Photovoltaic Applications Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The objective of this project is to develop a hybrid heat sink for thermal management of hot-spots. Numerical and experimental techniques will be used to predict and understand the proposed microchannel heat sink performance. Two students will be working together towards the heat sink performance predictions. The first student will perform the numerical investigation which involves building of numerical models, meshing, solving using available commercial CFD codes. This process will give the student a good experience with numerical methods and commercial CFD software. The second students will conduct the experimental investigations. In their work, they will design and manufacture the test module. They will use the available laboratory equipment to investigate the heat sink performance including pressure drop and two-phas flow visualization. The two students will gain an experience with building test models, using lab equipment and calibration, and preforming data analysis.
