abstract

  • To the Editor: We wish to comment on the short report by Engel and Luck, Histamine2 Receptor Antagonism by Cimetidine and Sinus-Node Function, which appeared in the September 13 issue. The authors observed no bradycardia in 10 unmedicated patients, 30 minutes after a single injection of cimetidine (300 mg, intravenously). This contrasts with several previous reports linking bradycardia to cimetidine use.12345 In the cases cited, bradycardia occurred in six patients with ulcers, two of whom had renal failure; all but one were chronically treated with cimetidine. In those patients, the disturbance in rate typically had a slow onset, requiring. 1980, Massachusetts Medical Society. All rights reserved.
