Publications on graduate student experiences mainly focus on professional formation issues while overlooking emotional burden. However, the emotional burden is a strong factor in program completion. In this descriptive chapter, we explore narratives on emotional aspects of the life of a graduate student and their becoming a professional. These narratives are written by students and faculty of different genders, backgrounds, disciplines, and standing, raising issues of disciplinary cultures, expectations, and multifaceted pressures faced daily.
