Temperature-compensated calibration of cross-style hotwire anemometers Institutional Repository Document uri icon

abstract

  • Abstract Velocity measurements collected using constant-temperature hotwire anemometers are sensitive to variation in the ambient temperature. This research defines a methodology for calibrating cross-style hotwires from which temperature-compensated estimates of the streamwise and spanwise components of velocity are obtained. Four calibration sweeps are conducted that account for the effects of ambient temperature, flow angularity, and velocity magnitude. A freestream calibration verification experiment establishes that the relative calibration error is less than 2% of the velocity components for flow angles up to 20. The corresponding flow-angle uncertainty is less than 1.0.
