Much research has been conducted regarding women and minorities under-representation in law and how jurors and judges may demonstrate prejudice against them. However, little research has been conducted on the related issue of the roles gender and race play in consumer decisions when hiring an attorney. This article provides the results of a survey designed to discover biases in the attorney selection process. The results bring up issues of helpful and harmful stereotypes and call into question a popular anti-affirmative action argument.
